Bishop Broderick Pabillo will be installed to the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay by Bishop Socrates Mesiona of Puerto Princesa and no longer by Cardinal Jose Advincula of Manila.
Pabillo said the cardinal and Papal nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown will not make it to his installation because of pandemic travel restrictions.
Metro Manila is currently under the strictest enhanced community quarantine until August 20.
The changes were announced by Pabillo himself over Radio Veritas on Monday.
He said that aside from Mesiona, his predecessor Bishop Edgardo Juanich will also attend the August 19 ceremony.
“So basically, it is an all Palawan team,” Pabillo said.
The bishop arrived in Taytay on Aug. 5 and is currently under a mandatory 7-day quarantine.
Pabillo’s installation takes place at the St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral, the seat of the Taytay bishop, in the presence of a limited attendance in adherence to the Covid-19 protocols.
The ceremony coincides with the feast of St. Ezequiel Moreno, the Augustinian Recollect missionary who served in Palawan, and the prelate’s 15th episcopal anniversary.
