Caritas Caceres, the church’s aid and development agency in Camarines Sur province, celebrated 50 years of working in solidarity with the province’s most vulnerable sectors.
The agency was founded in 1973 as the Caceres Social Action Center (CSAC) with the aim of addressing issues of justice, peace, and development.
In 1989, it was renamed Caceres Social Action Foundation , and its present name was adopted in 2014.
Today, Caritas Caceres is part of the 85 diocesan social action network under the umbrella of Caritas Philippines.
The golden jubilee celebration was marked with a Mass presided over by Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona of Caceres at the Peñafrancia Basilica Hall in Naga City.
In his homily, Tirona stressed that the local Caritas’ involvement in the development of human dignity “is not for its own sake but because we are all children of God.”
Caritas Philippines president Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, for his part, hailed the Caritas Caceres’ unwavering commitment to the value of love, mercy and justice.
Over the past five decades, he said the organization has “pioneered numerous initiatives that addressed the multifaceted challenges facing our society from providing essential humanitarian aid in times of disasters to spearheading sustainable development projects.”
“Together, let us continue to be the voice of change, the hands of love, the agents of hope as we navigate the path towards a more just and compassionate society,” Bagaforo said.
Among the highlights of the event included the recognition of its partners and service awardees of Caritas Caceres, who served the institution for 15 years and above.
